After his sublime full debut LP Lost in Time dropped on King Underground in 2012, adding itself to a string of beat tapes and mixes, Nottingham College of Music trained producer and beat addict Simiah is quickly making a name for himself as one of the UK’s finest instrumental Hip Hop producers. A vinyl addict who’s passion for dusty loops and smoky beats led him to join forces with Mr Brown, Ernest Herb, Pings and Silk Cuts as part of the Cloudy Mind Beat Crew, the beats from his MPC2500 are busy and inventive while still effortlessly relaxed; their progression and intricacy a sure sign they’re made for instrumental listening rather than simply being a rapperless afterthough.
Following on from his free beat-tape Cloudy Memories that was released in 2011, he’s just dropped part two, 26 minutes of effortlessly chopped and faded beats from his 2010-2014 archives. A taster of what’s to come from his dusty fingers in the near future, it kicks off hard with a hard boom bap beat and up front vocal sample before quickly earning it’s name as blissful harp chords introduces the light, melodic nature that continues throughout. As funky as it is languid, mischievous piano riffs sit alongside lazy saxophones and humming atmospherics as crisp drums lead you through a natural style so in tune with the rhythms of the human body that heads simply can’t help but nod. At times spacious and stepping, at others taking on train track shuffles and mind detailed patterns, his drums are consistently original and on point, doing justice to the hours of crate digging that’s produced the expertly chopped samples above them.
