As part of their advertising campaign for 2014, the worlds premium gin Bombay Sapphire invited 3500 bartenders from around the world to their Laverstoke Mill distillery in the rolling hills of Hampshire, pitting them against each other for the title of Worlds Most Imaginative Bartender. With the task of creating a gin cocktail inspired by England, the host of the 14 finalists, they took inspiration from both the idyllic countryside of Hampshire and the atmospheric, history bars and vibrant streets of London to create a range of drinks that show the versatility of the infamous gin. Coming out on top, Parisian bartender Remy Savage unique ‘Paper Anniversary’ recipe combined 45ml of Bombap Sapphire with 15ml of his own home made paper syrup, something that not only gives the cocktail a subtle and original scent of paper but also links back to the Laverstoke Mill’s long history of printing commonwealth notes, and a dash of a special salt solution. Taking home not only the title but also a prize fund to the value of £10,000, Bombay Sapphire have put together a video showcasing his unique mixology skills. “Our aim for this competition is to inspire creativity through mixology; not only within bartenders but by everyone that enjoys cocktail making around the world. We’ve explored the most magnificent parts of England, understanding firsthand how our exotic gin is made, whilst discovering the ‘hidden London’ keeping us enchanted by its cosmopolitan vibe and ever changing landscape.
