BTK Interview
After our recent interview with Optiv, we figured it would be only right to have a quick catch up with his Brazilian partner in crime, BTK. Having released on all your favourite labels such as Renegade, Virus, Playaz, Subtitles and Dispatch as well as forming his own label, Dutty Audio, which has been making strides recently, he’s not a man to be taken lightly in d&b. He’s got that hard, dirty style easily recognizable from those label names and isn’t afraid to make the sub woofers shake. Monika Kalinowsky asked the questions.

Let’s get the idea about the man behind the tunes firstly. What else takes up your time outside of d&b?
Diablo 3, since 15th May!
Can you name few tunes that have changed your life?
Underground Resistance - Revenge of the Jaguar
Nirvana – Drain You
Ed Rush & Optical – Ressurrection feat. MC Rymetyme
The Prodigy – Funky Shit
Cidinho & Doca – Dinheiro
Now that your debut album Dirty Tricks alongside Optiv is out, are you satisfied with the result? How long did it take to produce it?
The album is doing pretty well and I’m very happy with all the love that it’s receiving from the scene. It took us 4 or 5 months to get the final tracklist ready.
What are you working on in the studio this days? What should we be looking out for?
I’ve been working on a solo remix as part of Paimon & Place 2b’s album for Citrus. Also, my remix of Cause 4 Concern’s Paranormal should be out next month on their own imprint. Alongside Optiv I’ve got an EP project on Hype’s Playaz label coming later this year which I’m very excited about, and a few more releases and remixes to be confirmed.
What’s the most memorable gig you’ve ever played?
My b2b set with Optical a few weeks back at the BSE’s Blackout edition in Belgium was something special, definitely one to be remembered.
What are you looking forward to in 2012 and what’s planned for your label?
This year it’s being very good so far. My debut album alongside Optiv came out on Virus Recordings last June and my label, Dutty Audio, has finally stepped up from being a digital label into the vinyl world, having it’s first wax release this month.
The label was started with the idea of putting out only my tunes, but since I’ve been sent so much good and unreleased music I decided to open the label for other artists as well. In July there will be another edition of the Aftershock EP series and there’s plenty more releases planned until the end of the year already.
Also, I’m looking forward for my first New Zealand and Australia tour with Optiv in September and for the South America tour in October that I’m putting together.
What are your dream collaborations?
I still wanna write a D&B track with Raiden. I’m such a fan of his work and the funk that he pulls out of his tracks is amazing.
Is there any other artists in particular that you’re feeling at the moment?
Mefjus, he’s a badboy producer!
Cheers BTK! Any shouts?
Big ups everyone that supports my music.
